Every year, about 9,000 inmates are released from prison. Their real challenge begins the day they leave the prison doors. For many ex-offenders, the transition from a controlled prison environment to the outside world is a struggle. Many would fail if left alone to do so. Hence, there is a need to provide them with continued support in the forms of halfway care and aftercare services. Based on the 2014 released cohorts, the penal recidivism rate is one in four.
