PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION POLICY

(collectively, the “SAL Group”, “we”, “us” or “our”).
Purpose
This Privacy Policy sets out the ways in which the SAL Group collects, uses, discloses, retains, and/or processes your personal data which may have been or may be collected by the SAL Group in order to carry out our activities and operations; and the measures we take to protect personal data in our possession. This Privacy Policy is designed to meet the requirements of Singapore’s personal data protection laws.
Application of Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all SAL members, non-members, customers, and content providers. From time to time, the SAL Group will update this Privacy Policy to ensure that it is consistent with any changes in its legal requirements. You are encouraged to periodically review this Privacy Policy to be informed of how the SAL Group is protecting your information and, where appropriate, any updates to this Privacy Policy will be notified to you by email. By using our website or services, becoming a member of SAL or the SAL Group, or otherwise providing us with your personal data, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and also agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy and the collection, use, disclosure and/or processing of your personal data by us as described in this Privacy Policy.
Types of Personal Information Collected
Personal data is any data whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified from that data or from that data and other information to which SAL Group has or is likely to have access to, such as an individual’s home address, telephone number, or a member’s transaction activity in relation to SAL Group’s activities. For instance, when a member registers for an SAL event, the member may provide us with identifying information such as (but not limited to) their name, telephone number, and email address. To process payment, a member may provide us with their credit card number and expiry date. When a member applies for membership, we may collect requisite information such as the member’s date of birth, nationality, qualification received, and their employment history.
How We Collect Your Personal Data
We collect personal data about you from various sources. For example, we collect and obtain information:
(a) Directly from You
Much of the personal data we collect is provided by you, such as when you apply for membership, register for SAL Group’s activities, purchase products and services from the SAL Group, use any of the websites or services provided by the SAL Group, or when you contact us.
(b) Using Online Tracking Technologies such as Cookies
Cookies may be used on some pages of our websites. We may use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. Cookies allow our websites to respond to you and can tailor their operations to your needs by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. This helps us analyse data about web page traffic and improve our websites. You can choose to accept or decline cookies by modifying the settings in your browser. However, you may not be able to use all the features of our websites if cookies are disabled.
(c) From Our Business Partners and from Other Sources
We may also receive your personal data from our third party service providers and other sources, which includes business partners, sub-contractors in technical, payment and delivery services, advertising networks, analytics providers, search information providers, and credit reference agencies.
Collection, Use and Disclosure of Your Personal Data
We may collect, use and/or disclose your personal data for any or all of the following purposes, including:
(a) Providing Products and Services and to Fulfill Core Business Functions:
a. Operating and allowing you access to the websites and online service portals operated by the SAL Group;
b. Communicating with you on various matters including changes to SAL Group’s activities;
c. Updating our data base with your personal data;
d. Performing obligations in the course of or in connection with our provision of the products and/or services requested by you;
e. Verifying your identity;
f. Responding to, handling, processing queries, requests, applications, complaints, and feedback from you; and
g. Processing payment or credit transactions.
(b) Legal Obligations:
a. Performing the SAL Group’s statutory functions and administering our activities and operations; and
b. Complying with any applicable laws, regulations, codes of practice, guidelines, or rules, or to assist in law enforcement and investigations
conducted by any governmental and/or regulatory authority.
(c) Marketing and Promotional Purposes:
a. Informing you of products and/or services available from the SAL Group.
(d) Analytics and Personalization:
a. Contacting you for surveys to conduct research about your opinion of current services or potential services that may be offered and to measure
or understand the effectiveness of our advertising; or
b. Statistical analysis, planning and reporting.
(e) Any other purpose relating to or reasonably necessary to achieve any other incidental business purposes related to or in connection
with the above.
Disclosure of your Personal Data
SAL Group does not sell, rent or lease its member/non-member lists to third parties. In addition to the purposes listed above, we may disclose certain personal information to our Preferred Partners (defined below) that perform services to support our core business functions and internal operations including administration of your membership, performance of statistical analysis, sending email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arranging for deliveries. All such Preferred Partners are prohibited from using your personal data except to provide these services to or on behalf of the SAL Group, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information. Such preferred partners (“Preferred Partners”) include:
(a) our business partners, vendors, and sub-contractors for the performance of the SAL Group’s services and operations;
(b) advertisers and advertising networks that require personal data to personalise relevant adverts to you and others;
(c) analytics and search engine providers that assist us in the improvement and optimisation of our websites;
(d) organisations which share a business relationship with the SAL Group in areas such as marketing collaborations to carry out SAL Group’s activities
and operations and co-branding exercises;
(e) our professional advisors such as our auditors and lawyers; and
(f) any other third party who reasonably requires your personal data to achieve any other incidental business purposes related to
or in connection with the above.
We will not restrict or deny you access to SAL Group’s services because of choices and requests you make in connection with your personal data. However, please note that certain choices may affect SAL Group’s ability to deliver our services.
How We Store and Protect your Personal Data
SAL Group maintains reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards designed to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, use or disclosure. SAL Group maintains your personal data on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, with reasonable safeguards in place. SAL Group will not share your personal data with third parties without your permission, except if required by law or a court order to do so.
You should be aware, however, that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of storage is completely secure. While security cannot be guaranteed, we strive to protect the security of your personal data, and are constantly reviewing and enhancing our security measures.
Should we become aware of any unlawful or unauthorised access, use or disclosure of your personal data, we will notify you if and as required under Singapore data protection laws, as well as take reasonable steps to mitigate the effects of any data breach.
As far as possible, the SAL Group stores all personal data collected in Singapore. However, it may be that your personal data shall be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside Singapore. It may also be processed by staff operating outside Singapore who work for the SAL Group or for one of our Preferred Partners. By submitting your personal data to us, you agree to the transfer, storage or processing of your personal data outside Singapore and the SAL Group assures you that your personal data shall be accorded a standard of protection that is at least comparable to the protection under the PDPA.
Retention of Personal Data
We may retain your personal data for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required or permitted by applicable laws.
We will cease to retain, securely delete or destroy documents containing any personal data about you, or remove the means by which the data can be associated with you, when we no longer need it for the purpose for which we collected and retaining it is no longer necessary for legal or business purposes.
Withdrawing consent
You may withdraw your consent given for any or all purposes set out in this Privacy Policy by writing to us at [email protected].
Upon receipt of your written request to withdraw your consent, we may require a reasonable period of time to process and respond to your request.
If you withdraw your consent to any or all purposes, and depending on the nature of your request, we may not be able to continue to provide some or all of our products and/or services to you. Please note that withdrawing consent does not affect our right to continue to collect, use, disclose or process your personal data where such collection, use, disclosure, and processing without consent is permitted or required under applicable laws.
If you are a member of SAL, you acknowledge that the collection and usage of certain personal data is necessary to maintain your membership and/or for processing transactions and for certain other purposes. Such other purposes include receiving information from the SAL and its subsidiaries and business partners relating to its programmes, products and services (“Other Information”). If you wish to opt out of receiving Other Information, you may at any time choose to unsubscribe by (1) writing to SAL at [email protected] or (2) clicking on the “unsubscribe” function on any electronically transmitted publications from SAL or (3) choosing to unsubscribe on the SAL customer portal. If you choose to unsubscribe as mentioned above, you will no longer receive any communications from SAL with respect to the Other Information but you will continue to receive communications from SAL relating to your membership.
Access, accuracy and correction of your Personal Information
You have the right to access your personal data that is in our possession or is under our control and request for access to information about how we have, or may have, used or disclosed it during the 12 months prior to your request. We may charge you a reasonable fee to respond to your request. If we intend to do so, we will provide you with information about the fee prior to charging it.
You have the right to require us to correct any error or omission in your personal data that is in our possession or under our control. We also rely on you to ensure that your personal data such as your profile and contact information is accurate and complete. Please let us know of any changes to your personal data.
