An Associate member is a person who may benefit from, or able to contribute to, the work of SAL. Please refer to the Section 15 of the SAL Act "The Act".
Who may apply to be become an Associate Member?
- Qualified persons within the meaning of the Legal Profession Act (Cap.161);
- Members of the academic staff of the faculties of law at the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Social Sciences, who are not advocates and solicitors of the Supreme Court of Singapore;
- Lecturers or tutors in law at any of the other faculties of the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, Nanyang Technological University or Singapore University of Social Sciences, who are not advocates and solicitors of the Supreme Court of Singapore;
- Students of law faculties of the National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Social Sciences; and Singapore Citizens/PRs studying in universities set out in the First, Third, Fourth and Fifth Schedules of the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules;
- Lawyers attached to offices of foreign law firms in Singapore, and foreign lawyers attached as in-house solicitors of businesses and companies in Singapore;
- Other persons who can contribute to and benefit from the work of SAL, in the full discretion of the Executive Committee pursuant to Section 15 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act.
